Diabetes Reversal Program

If you want to know how to control or even reverse diabetes naturally, you have come to the right place! However, diabetes is one condition where you likely also do need a little help from Allopathic diabetes medication or insulin. Especially in the case of Type-1 Diabetes and high uncontrolled blood sugar in Type-2 Diabetes. Because of the dangerous complications of diabetes, one of the first things we may do is put you on medication. But, our similarity with other doctors, endocrinologists and diabetes centers ends there! – IPC Heart Care takes an active participation in your diabetes management, helping you at every step with diet, exercise, monitoring your health, etc. While IPC joins hands with you in sharing responsibility for your health, we teach you and motivate you to become accountable for your own health. We set out clearly defined goals right at the onset, which are realistic and tailored for your specific issues, and explain what needs to be done to achieve these goals.

Aim of IPC’s Diabetes Reversal Program

The main aim of IPC’s Diabetes Reversal Program is to:

  • Bring your sugar levels under control as quickly as possible and for the long term
  • Prevent complications that result from diabetes
  • Correct conditions associated with diabetes like blockages in the blood vessels, poor blood circulation and diabetic ulcers
  • Help diabetics to slowly reduce the need for high doses of insulin and diabetes medication
  • Prevent people who are pre-diabetic from developing diabetes, naturally and without medication
  • Help diabetes patients to adopt a better lifestyle and improve the quality of their lives.

In a nutshell, the components of the diabetes reversal program include:

  • Individual assessment
  • Acute complications of diabetes prevention strategies
  • Goals for healthy eating
  • Basics of control: meal planning, exercise, medication and standards of care
  • Review of chronic complications resulting from uncontrolled diabetes

A Detailed Overview of IPC’s Diabetes Reversal Program:

IPC’s Diabetes Reversal Program aims to reverse diabetes naturally, as far as possible. However, it cannot be emphasised enough how important it is for patients of diabetes to take all diabetes medication that is prescribed to them by their doctor. IPC’s Diabetes Reversal Programme is conducted by a team of medical doctors, including endocrinologists, cardiologists, nutritionists, Ayurvedic doctors, qualified exercise therapists, stress management counsellors, and yoga and meditation specialists. The diabetes reversal programme includes:

  • Ayurveda (Optional, Safe Natural Herbal Remedies)
  • Medical Assessment of the Diabetes Patient
  • Establishment of the Root Causes of the Diabetes
  • Individualized Nutrition Counselling, Diet Advice and Meal Planning
  • Tailor-made Exercise Program & Practice Techniques
  • Yoga and Meditation

Medication, Including Allopathy (Mandatory if Needed) & Ayurveda (Optional, Safe Natural Herbal Remedies):

High blood sugar has serious implications, even in the short-term. So, the first step for any diabetes reversal program has to be to treat the diabetes as per the current levels, and bring them down. This may require insulin, allopathic diabetes medication, or sometimes constant allopathic diabetes medication with intermittent doses of insulin. IPC also offers the option of natural Ayurvedic medicines for diabetes. However, the Ayurvedic medicines are prescribed only after a thorough study of the person’s constitution is carried out, and they are introduced slowly along with the Allopathic medication that may be prescribed to you by your own doctor, or that our doctors prescribe to you. Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicinal system that uses plants and herbs with natural healing properties to naturally heal you! Gradually, if your blood sugar levels come down, as usually happens, the doses of allopathic diabetes medication or insulin can be lowered, and sometimes even discontinued. The monitoring of blood sugar levels should never be stopped, however, and this easy process is something you must always continue at home, with your sugar testing kit.

Medical Assessment of the Diabetes Patient:

Before a diabetes reversal treatment plan is formulated, the patient is first assessed thoroughly. This includes all medical tests that are relevant to diabetes directly, as well as those that relate to the organs and body systems often affected by the disease. Diabetes is the number-one cause of heart disease. So, very often a diabetes patient may have a heart condition also.

Establishment of the Root Causes of the Diabetes:

Unless the root reason that an ailment has manifested in a person is properly understood, it often cannot be cured or treated effectively. A thorough investigation is carried out to find out about the person’s medical history, his/ her family history of disease, personality traits, life stresses and stressors, etc. All this helps to get to the bottom of why the diabetes exists. The most important causes for Diabetes Type 1 (Juvenile Diabetes) are believed to be congenital or genetic. Diabetes Type 2 is believed to have causes ranging from unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle, to psychological factors like stress, depression, sudden shocks, etc. Gestational diabetes is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy.

Individualized Nutrition Counselling, Diet Advice and Meal Planning:

They say “you are what you eat”. In the case of diabetes, remember that this is actually amplified many times. If you are pre-diabetic, your body is developing a resistance to insulin; if you have Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes), your pancreas may be producing little or no insulin; and if you have Type 2 Diabetes, your body does not process insulin properly. Insulin is very essential for converting starch / sugar from food into energy. In a diabetes patient, this does not happen efficiently, and there tends to be a build-up of excess sugar in your blood. What you should eat and how much would be largely dependent on your specific case. For example, some people have very fluctuating sugar levels. Hypoglycaemia or “low blood” sugar can be dangerous, if sugar falls below a certain level. IPC has nutritionists who are specialized in diabetes and have immense experience treating diabetics. Our nutritionists will be happy to guide you on the dos and don’ts of diabetic diets, and plan a specific diet according to your own likes and dislikes.

Tailor-made Exercise Program:

Diabetes affects blood circulation. High levels of sugar in the blood also cause damage to the internal lining of arteries, accelerating the process of blockage. Timely intervention for lowering blood sugar levels is absolutely essential. Energy is required for exercise, and the body uses sugar to produce energy. So, exercise does wonders for lowering blood sugar levels. However, when to exercise, how much to exercise, for how long to exercise, what exercises to undertake, and when to avoid exercise are all very important factors that vary from individual to individual. Our certified exercise experts are trained and experienced in these areas and devise a diabetes reversal exercise plan specifically for you.

Stress Management Counselling & Practice Techniques:

Diabetes can be a very stressful condition to come to terms with, live with and accept. Just the knowledge of the complications that diabetes can lead to is very scary for many. Our diabetes counsellors are very adept at putting our patients at ease, and helping them come to the realization of how much a lot of things are actually within their control. We have so many patients who tell us that they have learned to just accept what needs to be done as part of their lives and have learned to actually stop thinking of diabetes. We really hope the same for you. We also have programs like the Alpha Thinking Program, which teaches you techniques for thinking positively including positive creative imagery.

Yoga and Meditation

Our Yoga and Meditation experts help you with specific exercises for diabetes as well as general relaxation and breathing techniques. It is our aim to slowly take your body to a place where you experience a sort of meditative state-of-mind even when you are not meditating!

Diabetes also often goes hand-in-hand with other diseases like hypertension and heart disease. If cardio-vascular disease is also present, besides medication and lifestyle changes, some non-surgical treatment options like Arterial Clearance Therapy/ Chelation Therapy and ECP/ EECP (Enhanced External Counterpulsation) Therapy may also be recommended.

Please note that we treat patients from all around the globe. We have tie-ups with many hotels (different price ranges) and some travel companies like Travel Mart India, who offer discounts to our patients who do not live in Mumbai. This is our effort to make the whole process of treatment more affordable if you are from out of the city of Mumbai, so that “cost” is much less of a deterrent. (We also have an IPC center in Lonavala)

Reversing Pre-Diabetes

If you are found with elevated sugar levels, but the levels are not high enough for you to be categorized as being “diabetic”, you fall under the “pre-diabetes” category. This means that you have what is called “insulin resistance” and your body does not process or utilize insulin efficiently. People with pre-diabetes initially often have high levels of insulin. If not tackled at this stage, the production of insulin can diminish and you can become Type 2 Diabetic.

The good news is that reversing pre-diabetes is easier than reversing diabetes, and if you just use the same natural methods mentioned for reversing diabetes above, you will most likely never develop diabetes. Remember, you must exercise your veto power over anything negative, if you can – even genetics!
